With a recent Academy of Country Music announcement, Frisco’s draw as a growing community is proven again. According to an article in CommunityImpact, Grant Johnson writes, “The world of country music will come to Frisco in 2023 as the Ford Center hosts the 58th Academy of Country Music Awards.”

ACM Awards

Josh Dill, director of sports and events at Visit Frisco, says, according to the article, “I think that over the years, Frisco has proven that we can rise to the occasion for these big events… It’s going to have a significant impact on the entire region hosting this event.” Held on May 11, 2023, the event will be livestreamed globally, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

Adds Jennifer Salke from the article, “We are thrilled to once again bring the Emmy Award-nominated Academy of Country Music Awards to our global audience.”

Bigger is Better

From the article, “The 58th ACM Awards will be the first nationally televised award show to take place at the Ford Center, according to Dill. The Ford Center is a 12,000-seat multi-purpose stadium that opened in 2016, according to previous Community Impact Newspaper reporting. The Star in Frisco surrounds the Ford Center and includes the Dallas Cowboys world headquarters, restaurants, retail, and an Omni Hotel. The Ford Center is the result of a public-private partnership among the Dallas Cowboys, the city of Frisco, and Frisco ISD. Dill acknowledged the role that the relationship between the Cowboys and the Academy of Country Music played in bringing the event to Frisco.”

On the Radar

Adds Dill from the article, “In October of last year, we had a World Cup site visit, and we talked to [the Cowboys representatives] about [the ACM Awards] being on our radar, but we didn’t get heavily involved in the logistics until April.” Additionally, “We can’t wait to take the show to a new level for fans with an exciting new venue and integrated partnership with the Dallas Cowboys,’ Academy of Country Music CEO Damon Whiteside said in a press release.”

A recent update to an article in Community Impact describes how plans for The Grove Frisco are moving forward. According to the article, “Design consultant Kimley-Horn received approval from Frisco City Council on June 7 to build three different developments on about 328 acres of land at the northwest corner of Custer Road and Main Street. The developments, planned by Brookfield Properties, will consist of single-family homes, a multifamily community of up to 425 apartments and retail stores…”

Housing Development

A single-family home portion of the neighborhood includes “…a combination of 7,000-, 8,500- and 12,500-square-feet lots with patios, documents stated. This area of the development will be framed by Independence Parkway on the west and Havenwood Lane on the north.” There are also plans for a three-story apartment development that sits behind retail shops. A four-acre public park separates the single-family home neighborhood from the apartment development.

Retail Shops

There will also be plenty of opportunities for new businesses in this development. The article adds, “The intersection of Custer Road and Main Street will provide an entrance to a variety of retail shops, site plans show…A four-story amenity center is planned for the center of the property, to the west of the park.”

Dedicated Development

This development had to be perfect for Frisco. At times this meant going back to the drawing board for improvements. But, adds the article, “Commissioner Jon Kendall, who said he did not like the 2017 plan, commended representatives from Kimley-Horn for addressing the city’s notes in its updated development.” Kendall adds, “Most developments, they want to take ideally six months—the long ones 12 months,” Kendall said. “The fact that we’re sitting here five years later, I hope that [shows] the city how much [Kimley-Horn is] pushing.”
