There’s more to love in Frisco. Comerica Bank is opening a business & innovation hub in Frisco in 2023. According to a recent article by Local Profile, big things are coming to The Star in Frisco. Details of the article by Virginia Mignorance follow.

According to the article, new construction will begin in late 2022 and open in late 2023 or early 2024. According to the article, “This represents a significant investment in Comerica’s strategic vision,” said Megan Crespi, executive vice president and chief enterprise technology and operations services officer, in an official statement. “Expanding our corporate headquarters footprint to one of the most desirable locations for business and innovation in the U.S. is positioning our bank for future success.”

Why Frisco?

Mignorance continues, “Frisco is known for cultivating an exceptional environment for businesses to thrive,” said Brian Foley, Comerica’s Texas market president. “The hub’s on-site amenities and prominent location will help to support our company’s vision for future growth, including our ability to attract and retain top talent.”

Growing Opportunities

The article concludes, “Comerica will also come with job opportunities for the area. The new building is expected to house about 300 workers from various teams, including technology and product management, to front-line business units. It will feature learning and interview centers at the new Human Resources office. Frisco is reaching for new blood to continue its meteoric growth to stay on top as one of the best places in the country to live. Balancing competing interests is the name of the game. Highlights from the article that appeared in CommunityImpact by Miranda Jaimes are featured below.

City Manager Wes Pierson

No stranger to the city manager chair, Wes Pierson, comes from nearby Addison, another development hot spot. Pierson explained his experience, “I’ve been in city management a little over 13 years. I’ve experienced leading teams and achieving results in complex operating environments, and that’s either in a small community or medium-sized community or a large community. And what I think I bring to this role is I care passionately for people. So I really want to focus on people. I’m a strategic thinker. I’ve got some pretty good experience with financial matters and things of that nature. And then I really enjoy building relationships. And I think all of those things will be helpful to this role.”

Challenges in Frisco

As inspired as Frisco’s growth has been, Pierson understands the importance of balancing competing interests. He continues from the article, “There are two things that people hate: change and the way things are.’ And so an example of a competing interest might be some people want to say, ‘Let’s grow,’ and some people go, ‘No.’ So when you have to deal with those types of competing interests as a city manager, navigating and balancing all of that can be challenging. The other challenging thing is managing expectations. Sometimes folks have great expectations, and you have to align expectations with resources. So, for city managers, those are in general our two challenges, but I’m looking forward to seeing how that applies here as I learn more about the community.”

Big Plans for Frisco

Residential and commercial development never stops in Frisco, so Pierson’s role as city manager asks him to hit the ground running. When asked by Jaimes about his goals for the first year, Pierson replies, “First and foremost, it is my mission to build trust with the council, with the community, with staff, with our partners and stakeholders. I firmly believe that with trust you can accomplish almost anything, and without it you can’t get anything done. And it’s very precious and can be easily lost. So building trust is No. 1. Next, I’ve got to learn about this community and the organization, and I also need to connect with our people. That’s really important to me. I already know there is a great team in place, and I need to be part of that great team so that I can help lead them to where we want to go. And then [finally] just executing on the council’s and the community’s priorities.”
